Interreg Aurora visited Mid Sweden University for the first time

On January 16, 2024, the Interreg Aurora Steering Committees made their first visit to Mid Sweden University in Sundsvall. The purpose of this visit was to gain comprehensive insights into the university's ongoing research initiatives.
On their visit on Campus Sundsvall, the committees got a brief overview of Mid Sweden University by Prof. Jonas Harvard and Karin Nygård-Skalman. After that they received short presentations of a selection of different research projects related to the programme. First, Prof. Harvard, presented a prestudy about Air Herding where researchers look into the possibility to herd reindeers with the help of drones, and investigated the benefits and challenges need to be solved. Dr. Aamir Mahmood presented ENSURE 6G, a new project funded by Interreg Aurora with the goal to create data-driven automation solutions enabled by robust wireless connectivity.
Following the presentations, the committee’s got a guided tour of the labs at STC Research Centre where STC researchers received the participants to talk about their ongoing projects. Dr. Irida Shallari presented Edgy – Embedded deep learning systems for railways. Associate professor Jan Lundgren presented his research on sound analysis with AI that can detect everything from industrial machine maintenance to hearth diseases. Prof. Bengt Oelmann demonstrated the wireless sensor lab where the researchers, among others, harvest energy for different types of sensor systems. Finally, Dr. Peng Cheng, demonstrated a 48 V powertrain that could be a much better choice for future electric vehicles in terms of efficiency, performance, safety and cost.
Interreg Aurora is a programme in the European Union Interreg community for cross-border cooperation. The programme offers great opportunities and enables new and exciting cross-border cooperation in the northernmost part of Europe and Sápmi.
The Steering Committees are responsible for the selection of projects. Interreg Aurora has two Steering Committees, one for sub-area Aurora and one for sub-area Sápmi. The Steering Committees make the selection of projects based on pre-defined selection criteria. Organisations from each Programme partner country is represented in the Committees.
